Choosing a Family Car

People approach buying a family from two routes: Either they have already had one and their choice next time will be determined on how they liked the old one. Or they are just moving up car-wise having just started a family.

For those who are replacing an existing family car, the experience will stand them in good stead. Whatever problems existed with the previous car is likely to be forefront in the mind when choosing a replacement. These problems might not simply be the usual ‘car’ problems (such as unpleasant to drive or lacking in power) but could also include the ease of use. An example would be the ease of opening the back doors while holding shopping and children.

You don’t need to go for a huge people carrier or 4x4 to take the family around, although you will appreciate the space. Depending on how old your children are will dictate exactly what you will look for in a family car. You won’t need to go for extensive leg room while the people using the back seat are still small, but small people do tend to need a lot of accessories.

If you go to a dealership to take a test drive, ask before hand if you can take your children with you. Keep in mind that you will be needing to use this car every day and any minor little niggles may become the cause for more stress than you ever imagine.

Fighting with the seats to move or fold them down is just one thing that you don’t want to have to deal with. Awkward, undersized doors can make it especially difficult to get the kids in and strapped down. Seats which are awkward to fit child seats are possibly the main reason why people don’t come back to the previous models when renewing their family car.
