Advice

Buying a new car online? Check our top tips and expert advice to get the best deal.
Cars are a growing market for online sales; more people are now buying news cars through the internet. The one thing that you can expect is the same great savings as buying anything else. Used cars are available, but the biggest savings to be made are on new cars.

Deals from many online dealerships will be available with a range of car finance options or extras such as insurance included in the price. Many of our online dealerships offer a much wider range of models than traditional car dealerships, even selling cars from many difference manufacturers as opposed to being dedicated to a single badge.

Do your research

First things first: Do some research on new cars. Start with what is available even if it is outside your needs or budget, especially cutting edge features. This is where the internet excels. You have 24 hour a day access to a wealth of information, from what the manufacturers say, to the whole spectrum of independent reviews and comparisons. With this information you can see what cars are likely to be suitable. Unless you have a firm idea of which make and model you want, pick a few alternatives.

If you don’t have a firm idea of what you want in a new car think about what you use a car for. If you do a lot of motorway driving then a hybrid is probably not for you, just as a high performance sports car won’t be much use if you drive only in central London. Once you have a few cars in mind you can start looking at what is available for these. You can see what colours and options are available and start looking at prices, at least from a comparison point of view.

There are obvious advantages of doing you research online, at least initially. You can spend as long as you like, everything you need is available from your home. This is an improvement on the old fashioned way of looking for a new car when you are only after information. No going from dealership to dealership, a chore even in pleasant weather, a nightmare in the rain. No pushy sales staff being short with you if you are only after information.

Visit car dealerships

You might think that this is an unusual suggestion from a site which is trying to buy you a car. But many people, before they buy a car will want to have a test drive or at least see the car in the flesh. A car is one of the largest purchases most people ever make, so you will want to be sure that the car you buy is what you expect. This is where buying new cars online comes into its own. It doesn’t matter where you go to look at the car or even which one you take for a test drive. Because the car is new you will know that everything will be standard. This is unlike buying a used car where you don’t know what condition it will be in. Obviously any options you pick with mean that the car varies, but these are still standardised.

The benefits of buying a new car on the internet

Saving money really goes without saying, getting the absolute best price for a new car is something which is only really possible online. This is because the overheads are reduced for our online dealerships, they can offer you a real bargain without it damaging their own bottom line. Besides the saving though, there are other advantages.
Our online dealerships will generally be able to offer you a wider range of options, both in the choice of cars they offer, as well as the finance the offer. Online car dealers are also less likely to be tied down to a single manufacturer and yet still be able to offer the same service and price as the more restricted competitors.

Choice is a massive incentive for buying your new car on the internet. You can pick and chose from any make and model to find what you are after. You can then decide on the exact specifications you want. So instead of compromising between what a car dealer has in stock and how long to wait for what you want, you can find exactly what you want and if one dealer doesn’t have it, you can simply move onto the next.

Furthermore, you will have your new car delivered direct to your door and at 4WheelDeals we only deal with reputable dealerships so you get the same protection under law and industry guidelines as buying a new car from anywhere.

As the buyer of a new car the market is in your hands, car dealerships have earned something of a reputation for being pushy and making you feel like they are doing you a favour in selling you a car. By shopping online you take control and can dictate how you want to do business.

Instead of spending time traipsing from dealership to dealership you have everything at your fingertips, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can search for the exact car; make, range model, colour and options. You can then see what price you can expect and then either sit back and see how low the price will go or look for the best immediate price.

No pressure. No salesman. You can pick precisely what you want. You can shop for your dream car at a time to suit you and all from the comfort of your own home.

Down side to buying a car online

The disadvantages of buying online are easy to work around so long as you know about them. You can’t see the car before you buy. This is why we recommend going to a showroom and looking at, or even test driving a car first. Some buyers entirely dismiss the concept of buying a car online because they want to see the car first and then buy it while they are at the dealership.

This isn’t really a problem with new cars. Yes, buying a used car online is a little risky as you can’t tell what condition it will be in. But a new car will be in ‘new’ condition. This means that (except for variations in options) the car you take for a test drive from Fred’s Dealership down the road will be the same as the one you buy at a far lower price through us. This means that you don’t have to rely on second hand advice and pictures when you buy a car.

Of course, when the car is delivered, perform a thorough check of the bodywork and interior for bumps or scraps before you officially take possession. You will still be covered by the same manufacturer’s conditions for any problems that arise.

The only other potential problem you will encounter is that you will most likely have to wait a few days for the car you buy online to be delivered. Obviously at your local dealership you can quite often drive the car right off of the forecourt. This obviously isn’t an issue if you have specific demands for options or colours which the dealership doesn’t have in stock, as you would still have to wait.
